ABOUT
MISS CADY, THE SCIENCE LADY
(CADY STAFF HWANG - cstaff@hightechhigh.org)

I have a passion for being a mom, teaching, learning, asking questions, science, animals, literature, writing, poetry, U.S. history, playing soccer, surfing, cooking, traveling, enjoying family and friends. I am so excited to be teaching Exploratory Science at Explorer, this year! I cannot wait to work with all of the amazing students in every grade level as we ask questions, solve problems, celebrate our growth mindset and work together to save the world!
I have been at HTH for 11 years. I found my dream job as a teacher and founding member of HTMMA in 2005. Then, again in 2011, I got to be a founding member of HTMCV. During the 2012-2013 school year, I went on a traveling and learning adventure in England with my adventurous husband, Darrick. I got to work with an organization called Innovation Unit. I had the privilige of working with wonderful teachers and students interested in implementing project-based learning at their schools, for the first time. I learned so much from my experiences in England, and then I got to return to HTMCV for two more great years of teaching 8th grade Humanities with my partner teacher, friend and brother-from-another-mother, Jamie Holmes!
Before working at HTH, I was a 12th grade ELD teacher at San Diego High School and a 9th and 10th grade English teacher at Madison High School. Moving to San Diego from LA, I earned my undergraduate degree, my teaching credential and a Masters in Education at UCSD. I completed work for my second Masters in Teacher Leadership through the HTH Graduate School of Education where I focused on social entrepreneurship, empowerment and engagement in my classroom. I have taught courses working with amazing teachers on Project Design for Deeper Learning and Student Collaboration at High Tech High's Graduate School of Education and at USD.
I love to discover new things and to figure out solutions to problems with students, while celebrating life and learning along the way! I have always been passionate about science and using the scientific method and problem solving skills to come up with creative solutions and ideas to save the world! I can't wait to share and explore the sciences with my students! Family is extremely important to me, especially being a new mom. I feel so lucky to be joining the Explorer family this year!!!
