Presentations of Learning at High Tech High
Passage Presentations at Expeditionary Learning Schools
I have helped facilitate and/or been an audience member for presentations of learning at High Tech High in elementary, middle school, high school and graduate school for 12 years. There are a variety of ways to facilitate POLs. At their core, POLs are an opportunity for students to present their learning to their family, teachers and community. During POLs, students prove to themselves and their audience that they have grown and are ready to move on to the next step with clear goals, strong content knowledge and an understanding of their strengths and challenges.

Here are some documents to help facilitate POLs in middle and high school -

CELEBRATIONS OF LEARNING

Presentations of Learning in the Elementary or Primary grades may take the form of celebrations of learning, rather than formal presentations of learning, passage presentations or a portfolio defense. This video from Expeditionary Learning shows how a Celebration of Learning or Exhibition can give kindergarteners the opportunity to present their learning in a meaningful, authentic way to family and community members.
